For the 2019 season, the Granby Zoo wanted to offer an intuitive, highly user-friendly interactive experience tied to the fascinating world of lions. The installation created by Version 10 invites visitors to give the simulator—equipped with a microphone—their best lion roar imitation.

After a not-so-scientific analysis, the simulator plays back the type of lion call that best matches the characteristics captured by the microphone. Were the intonations accurate and placed correctly? Was the intensity strong enough to carry 5 to 7 kilometers?

The closer the participant’s performance is to an “authentic” roar, the more likely the simulator is to respond with the most impressive roar from its bass-equipped speakers—powerful enough to make the ground shake! LED strips placed in vertical columns on each station enhance the visual impact, acting like sound meters measuring the decibels produced.
